Livingseas Foundation – Coral Restoration Program
Livingseas Foundation is a Bali-based marine conservation NGO committed to regenerating coral reefs, building resilient marine ecosystems, and involving local communities and global citizens in hands-on restoration. Founded by a team of divers, scientists, and environmental advocates, Livingseas has spent years restoring degraded reefs in Bali and beyond using science-based methods and community involvement.
Their coral planting initiative focuses on rebuilding damaged reefs by attaching coral fragments to specially designed metal structures called Reefstars—modular hexagonal frames that allow for coral growth, stability, and long-term monitoring. These structures are placed on sandy seafloors where coral life has been destroyed due to blast fishing, rising sea temperatures, or pollution. Over time, they foster natural regeneration and create new habitats for fish and marine biodiversity.
